Voting started Tuesday morning for the second section of District Growth Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir amid chilly situations and tight safety preparations, officers mentioned in Srianagr.
“Polling started at 7.00 am. Preliminary reviews counsel that only some folks have up to now turned out at polling stations as a result of early morning winter chill,” an official mentioned.
He mentioned the tempo of voting is predicted to choose up because the day progresses and temperature rises.
As many as 321 candidates are contesting within the second section of the DDC polls and voting is going down at 2,142 polling cubicles. As many as 7.90 lakh voters are eligible to vote on this section of elections.
Out of the 280 constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, 43 are going to polls within the union territory within the second section – 25 in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu division.
Election can also be being held in 83 sarpanch constituencies for which a complete of 223 candidates are contesting within the section two.
Additionally, by-polls are being held in 331 panch constituencies. Over 700 candidates are within the fray for these seats.
Authorities have declared all 1,300 polling stations within the valley as delicate.
“Virtually all cubicles in Kashmir are delicate from the safety perspective. Further safety has been supplied within the polling stations within the valley,” state election commissioner Okay Okay Sharma informed reporters on Monday.
He mentioned all safety preparations have been put in place and the areas have been secured.
